Nathan finds himself telling Haley about his recent troubles as she begins to sympathise with Dante. Haley is shocked by his confession and stung by his decision to withhold the truth from her. She grows silent as Nathan admits that he was the one who killed Dante not Dan. The news proves too much for Haley and she moves into Lucas's leaving Nathan alone in the apartment. Nathan looks to Lucas to act as a mediator between he and Haley. Lucas attempts to explain Nathan's state of mind but Haley isn't convinced by his reasoning. Taking matters into his own hands, Nathan calls on Haley. She hesitates but hears him out. Nathan apologises for lying and admits that he has a darker side but Haley allows for him to choose a better path. He refuses to apologise for defending her and his words move Haley and see her returning to their apartment.

Dan chooses to enter a guilty plea to his charges of manslaughter to his lawyers surprise. Nathan appears similarly stunned by Dan's decision however Dan explains that he has other sins to atone for. Despite expecting the worst, Dan gets a break as his Lawyer returns to release him explaining that Dante's autopsy revealed that he died during the crash and not when Nathan punched his lifeless body in a rage. In a press conference Dan tells the public that he is willing to step down from his position of mayor if the public want him to.

Concerned about Lucas's health, Peyton pulls back from him and rules out all PDA's (public displays of affection). Her hesitation around him throws Lucas however he encourages Peyton to talk to him. She admits that she fears as last time she embraced their relationship fully Lucas's heart failed. She also points out that everyone she has cared for has moved out of her life as soon as she had committed to them. Lucas assures her that he will not leave her and that they will be fine.

Mouth finds himself being warned by Gigi that she is about to dump him. He attempts to prevent this from happening telling Gigi that he likes dating her. She has made up her mind and they sit on the grass outside Tree Hill High and talk. She puts meaning behind her action telling Mouth that he will soon be leaving Tree Hill High as they are in different years of school. Given this she doesn't want to continue their relationship as that would hang over them in their remaining months together.

Brooke forgos partying as she studies for an upcoming maths quiz. As she has studied hard she feels confident she wont have to rely on Rachel's offer of the key to the test cabinet. Her confidence is shattered as the test results are posted and Brooke receives and F. Determined to graduate Brooke turns to Rachel for help and they sneak back into school after the day is over. They snatch the relevant papers and are turning to leave as they bump into Principle Turner. He is genuinely puzzled as to why they are sneaking around school after class hours. Their attire of black catsuits to perform the break in only adds to his question. Rachel remembers and offer to join a "clean teen" meeting after school and seizes on that informing their principle that they are there to attend. Brooke and Rachel are forced to sign up to the group to keep their cover. They are presented with Clean Teen t-shirts and take a vow of abstinence.
