Lucas fears about Derek appear correct as Peyton finds herself running from the man she had begun to let into her life. At first Peyton laughs off Lucas's continuing concerns about her brother telling him that she has had a great time with Derek so far and begging Luke not to spoil things. This changes as she gets an IM from Lucas's messenger account which is out of context. She rings Lucas and asks whether he is online and gets a shock when he tells her he's not. She then notices a spelling mistake which matches one that was in a previous email sent to her by Derek. Taking matters into her own hands she heads over to see Derek. She enters his room despite him not being in and scouts around. Whilst Derek's wall of Peyton photos is missing his laptop contains a picture of her. The "Y" key also sticks as she tries it out generating the same double Y spelling error that was in both the email and the IM. As she spots and picks up a photo of Ellie holding when she was a baby, Derek enters and stands in the doorway behind her. She realises he is there and attempts to pretend she hasn’t noticed that he seems to be fixated with her. Moving toward the door Peyton tells Derek that school is getting busier and her father is now home so it will be harder for them to spend time together. As she dives past Derek she suggests he return home rather than staying in Tree Hill. Derek asks her if she will remember him and whether she likes him more than Lucas.
Brooke finds herself on a blind date set up by Rachel. Without her knowing, Rachel had altered Brooke’s online profile, which contains information about her and photos of her with friends, so the age on the page says “23”. Rachel tells Brooke what she has done as they settle in bar for a few drinks. Brooke is annoyed and her annoyance turns to alarm as she realises that that she was at the bar for a date. As she realises this the date arrives and Rachel beckons him over telling Brooke that she had also changed Brookes name to Peyton and that is how Brooke introduces herself to the date.
Nathan gets the news that he has been accepted for a scholarship at Duke. He rushes to find Haley who blurts out that she is pregnant as he begins to tell her the good news. Nathan is stopped in his tracks and quickly dissapears appearing more shocked at the news than pleased.
Lucas stops at the police station to explain his fear about Derek. The police detective who deals with him seems reluctant to get involved but he recognises Lucas from the High School shooting and that Luke was the one who carried Peyton to safety and agrees to help telling Lucas that he sees that Lucas really believes his suspicions to be true. Lucas also takes care of Peyton as she seeks him after realising that there is something wrong with Derek. They stay together as they head to a press conference organised by Nathan so he can announce his scholarship deal. Lucas leaves Peyton as he gets a call from the detective telling him that they have tracked down Derek and need Lucas to come into the station to make a statement.
Nathan pays a visit to Deb who is pleased to see him. He tells her about the scholarship and invites her to the press conference. As she tells him she will be there he points out that he wants her there sober and drug free or not at all.
Haley attempts to seek guidance and finds herself looking for Dan who she finds at the mayors office. She tells him the news and he seems genuinely pleased for her and Nathan. He looks thrilled as Haley mentions that Nathan got a scholarship at Duke’s. Dan agrees to have a word with Nathan to see if he can get through to his son. Nathan is at the riverside court with a basketball in hand and Dan jokes that he wasn’t sure he had the right son when approaching. He congratulates Nathan and then offers advice on how to proceed telling him to think about himself first and that Haley will join him at Duke is she really loves him. Nathan takes this advice on board and tells her that he will not feel guilty about following his dream.
As Lucas arrives at the police station he is directed to the room where Derek is being held. Despite assurances that the man in the room is Derek, he is not the man that Peyton has been spending time with the last few weeks. Lucas tells the detective that the man in the room isn’t Derek and rushes back to Peyton. He phones her whilst on the move warning her that Derek is still at large and not to go back to her house. It is too late as she is already standing outside the front door and turns to find Derek standing behind her next to his car. She tells Lucas that she has to go as her dad is inside and Derek has just arrived. She then heads towards the house telling Derek that it’s not a good time for him to visit. Derek follows her informing her that he knows that Peyton’s dad hasn’t returned to Tree Hill. As he tells Peyton this she breaks into a run to get away from him. She manages to get inside after spraying him in the face with deodorant. She closes the door behind her but he smashes a glass side pane and unlocks the door and crashes through sending Peyton scrambling for her bedroom. She gets a shock when she enters as the pictures that had previous covered Derek’s apartment wall are plastered across ever surface in her room. She tries to escape through the bedroom window however it is jammed and she is forced to turn to the door as Derek kicks it down and enters. He is quickly on top of Peyton who struggles weakly against his grip. His advance is halted by Lucas who arrives behind them and rips Derek off Peyton. The pair grapple however Derek proves the stronger and knocks Lucas to the ground. Peyton manages to smash a lamp against Derek’s head whilst he is focused on Lucas but it has little effect and sees Derek cast Lucas aside and turn back to Peyton. He pushes her against the doorframe to her room and moves in closely telling her that they are meant to be together. As he continues to hold Peyton there he is pulled away again, this time by the stranger who the police had brought into the station when looking for Derek. Derek struggles with the newcomer for a few minutes but proves stronger again and eventually pushes the newcomer to the ground near to Lucas. Derek turns to Peyton once more however he is finally beaten as Lucas and the newcomer charge Derek together and send him smashing through Peyton’s bedroom window leaving him sprawled on the ground below immobilised from the high fall. Peyton clings to Lucas and after a few moments wonders aloud who the newcomer is. He mutters that he is her brother Derek. The three of them head downstairs where they are surrounded by police. Peyton calls out that she lives there and that the culprit is on the front lawn. This causes confusion as the man who fell from the window has disappeared from the scene.
Brooke and her internet date head to Tree Hill high were they sleep together. They leave shortly after with Brooke underlining the fact that it was simply a one night stand. With Brooke gone her date begins to leave. He is surprised by the principle demands to know what he is doing. He and the principle freeze for a moment as the date explains that he was just looking around getting ready for his first day. The principle relaxes and laughs telling him that he will be fine as the new teacher at Tree Hill High.
Haley finds comfort in Karen who grimly welcomes Haley with the words “Welcome to my past Haley James Scott”. The pair watch Nathan’s press conference together on T.V. Nathan begins by announcing that he has always wanted to get a scholarship at Duke and delights those gathered by announcing that he has been offered one. He hesitates for a moment and then explains that Haley is pregnant and that seems to have changed his plans. He informs those watching that he will need time to consider what is best for them both before accepting any scholarships and finishes the announcement by looking directly into the television camera’s and telling Haley that he loves her and that they will get through these issues together. Dan was watching the announcement and sees Nathan make the opposite choice to the one he made when presented with the same decision all those years ago as Karen fell pregnant with Lucas.
