Over the past few years the media has begun embracing television shows with vigor highlighting big shows and encouraging readers and viewers to tune in to them. Shows such as
Lost and
Heroes have benefited from such publicity as media drive has combined with viewers enthusiasm to help thrust shows into the public eye.
On the flip side the new heightened awareness of shows has led to rapid critasism as a shows fortunes begin to turn. Again media coverage of a shows difficulties are echoed by the large fan bases. Shows like
The OC and
Neighbours have suffered this fate with fans and media turning on the shows as the writing levels begin to slip.
With that in mind it is uncommon to find a show which is producing high quality content and is not featuring in the mainstream media. Smallville comes close to this though with the latest episodes being aired in North America going unnoticed by the big media outlets but appears to easily challenge the shows they are hyping.
